Pumpkin Carving

Usually, we carve pumpkins with our friends, Jocelyn and Chris. Ian's schedule has been all over the place though. so scheduling a time to get together was difficult and then they got sick right before we were supposed to carve pumpkins and we didn't want the baby getting sick, so we missed this year. :(

We had a good time with just our little family though. Sawyer refused his nap that he should have taken right before we were to carve pumpkins, so he fell asleep sitting in his Bumbo seat! Ian and I enjoyed a few beers while carving our pumpkins and had a good time chatting. Ian wanted more pumpkin seeds though! He brined the seeds and then seasoned them in different flavor batches and baked them the next day. They were so good!

Pumpkin Patch with Gma and Gpa

We went to the pumpkin patch with Sawyer's grandma and grandpa. My dad asked what Sawyer would even do at a pumpkin patch and ended up being the one to hold him the whole time and show him the animals and put him on things! It was too cute! They are both so funny with Sawyer and I am so glad they love him so much and want to do things with him.

Sawyer - 2 Months Old

This little man is growing so quickly! He now weighs 11 pounds and is 22.5 inches long! He jumped two scales on the growth chart! The doctor was really impressed. He doesn't fit into the newborn clothes anymore and some of the 0-3 month size clothes are too tight already. I had to clean out his drawers and reorganize his clothes. I have some just 3 month clothes that fit perfectly, but the 3-6 month sizes are still a little too big.

Sawyer had his first set of vaccinations as well. It broke my heart to hear him cry, but the doctor was very quick and put him in my arms as soon as he was done. He mostly slept all day, but did fuss and need to be held a few times during the day and evening. He just laid his head on my chest and held onto my necklace. It was actually sweet, but I felt bad that he didn't feel well. He was pretty much back to normal the next day though.

We have wanted him to smile for so long now! We could tell he wanted to smile, but it just wasn't there yet. He is finally starting too. He is just kind of smiling randomly right now though. I can't wait to play with him and have him smile and laugh.

He is having a hard time staying in his bed lately. This is mainly my fault though. He usually starts in his bassinet, but since I nurse him, I just throw him in bed with me during the night and he ends up staying most night, because we both fall asleep. Now, he fusses when he is placed in his bassinet and as soon as I put him in bed with me, he is instantly asleep. I don't want him in our bed, but at the same time, he is so darn cute to say no to.

Sawyer loves his baths now! He splashes and kicks his legs and doesn't fuss at all. If he could fully smile, he would the whole time he is in the bath. He does fuss when he gets out though, because he is cold.

Sawyer thinks he is so big and just wants to see everything. He doesn't like to be in the craddle position at all. I usually carry him around facing outward, so that he can see things. He also does really well sitting up against the couch or a pillow and loves to be like that rather than laying down. I think I can probably put him in the Bumbo seat soon, since he holds his head really well. He can also lift his head completely and turn it side to side while doing tummy time, but can't hold it very long yet.

I am just amazed by this little guy every day and can't imagine my life without him now. I don't know how I am going to return to work! He is so perfect in my eyes and has such a hold on me already. I can't wait to watch him grow, although, I really don't want him to.

Sawyer's Dedication

We had Sawyer dedicated on October 10th, just after he turned 2 months. Pastor Steve was so great and worked it out with us to have a private dedication at our complex club house. We enjoyed the day with our families and a few close friends.

This was an emotional decision for Ian and I to make. We are fairly newer Christians and have never seen a dedication before. We knew we wanted have him dedicated and knew what it meant, but were even more set on it after meeting with Pastor Steve and going over the promises we would be making.

A dedication in the Christian faith is basically the parents promising to raise their child according to God's word and asking for him to protect the child. We believe that when the child is old enough to understand baptism, that he can make the choice to be baptized when he is ready to accept the Lord.

The 5 promises we made are:

I will treasure my child as a gift from God on loan to me. Psalm 127:3

I will teach my child of God's love and of His gift of eternal life through His Son Jesus. Deuteronomy 6:5-7

I will give grace to my child, as grace has been given to me. Ephesians 6:4

I will forgive my child, as I have been forgiven. Ephesians 4:32

I will accept responsibility for helping my child discover his God given purpose in life. Psalm 139:13-14

Sawyer - 1 Month Old

We started working on getting on a schedule this week. I realized that he was eating just about every 3 hours, so I decided to work our schedule around that. He isn't ready to wake up until about 9am, so I have been trying to get up around 7am to have some time to myself. At 8:30am he starts his slow wake up and at right about 9am I go upstairs to grab him whether he is fully awake or not. From there, he eats at all the hours of three, so 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, and 9pm. Our routine has been a diaper change, a feed, and then play time for about at least 30 minutes, sometimes longer, and then a nap until the next feed time. It is working out pretty well so far.

Sawyer is changing so much; we can't believe it. He is starting to fill out a little and his face is getting more round. He has also lost some hair on the top front, but his sides and the back are still fuller. We joke that he has grandpa's hair! My dad just laughs!
He has also started talking a lot. Well, making lots of noise actually! He is a very noisy baby. He squeaks and coos and makes a noise that sounds like a horse. He also started grunting and growling! When we swaddle him up at night, he hates it and wiggles and grunts as he tries to get out until he falls asleep.

We also started a MOPS class this week. MOPS is basically a large group of women who have young children. It is held once a week at a church and there is a speaker for the first half and then discussion for the second half. Since it is held at a church, most of the speakers are faith based, as well as the discussions. You are put into groups, so that you get to know the women at your table really well and they have a mentor mom, or a mom with grown up children, at every table too. They are supposed to become support and help for each other. The first speaker was really motivational and the girls that sit at my table are wonderful. I am excited to see what I learn here.

We also had our first visit back to church since Sawyer was born and his first trip ever! It actually pretty nice. We sat outside, in case he cried or needed to be fed. He slept through most of the service, but that is just fine and how we wanted it, anyways.

We also bought Sawyer a play mat this week. It is a brightly colored mat with toys hanging on it. He seems to like it, so we can do tummy time on it and lay him on his back to look at the hanging toys. The toys are right in his reach, so as he swings his arms and legs, he actually hits them and the music goes off. He gets kind of startled and looks around with big wide eyes when he does that!

He can hold his head up pretty well and has been moving it to the sides to see what is around him. He is very curious and very alert. He stares at everything with those big eyes! He can follow our voices too. Ian will talk to him and Sawyer will turn his head over to look at him. He will also follow any toys that you move in front of him with his eyes. I just can't believe how big he is getting already and I am not prepared for it to fly by this year.
